Joining the Workforce

Degrees from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry prepare graduates for immediate entry into the workforce.  The American Chemical Society (ACS) certified B.S. in Chemistry degree is recognized as the gold standard by the chemical industry.  Graduates with this degree are trained with all the skills necessary to succeed in industry as entry-level chemists.  Additionally, the option to specialize in areas including Environmental Chemistry offer a tailored degree path. The B.S. in Forensic Chemistry degree is accredited by FEPAC (Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission) and is intended for students who are interested in careers as scientists in criminal investigation and law enforcement. Forensic chemistry applies analytical chemistry to aid the justice system in identification and quantification of substances collected at a crime scene. Students take relevant courses in chemistry and biology, study criminal investigation procedures, and undertake a summer internship in a crime laboratory.  The students that choose forensic chemistry as a major are advised that the student must past extensive background checks prior to forensic internship and employment opportunities.
