Student Organizations
Forensic Chemistry Club– All forensic chemistry majors are part of this organization. We have monthly mandatory meetings to become acquainted with other forensic chemistry majors, invite guest speakers to talk about the field, get everyone on the right track in the curriculum, and listen to students’ presentations about their experience in a crime lab during their internships. These meetings give more insight on the life of forensic chemists and they also help students decide if this major is for them.
SAACS (Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society)– This organization provides a forum for the exchange of ideas among students in the chemical sciences, allows local students in the chemical sciences to have a voice in the national community of chemists, and encourages and assists students in the area who are considering careers in the chemical sciences.
NOBCChE (National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers)– The mission of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) is to build an eminent cadre of successful diverse global leaders in STEM and advance their professional endeavors by adding value to their academic, development, leadership, and philanthropic endeavors throughout the life-cycle of their careers. To that end we have established educational partnerships with school districts, municipalities, businesses, universities, and other organizations in the public and private sectors to provide and support local, regional, national, and global programs that assist people of color in fully realizing their potential in academic, professional, and entrepreneurial pursuits in chemistry, chemical engineering, and allied fields.
