Graduate Program Admissions

Welcome, prospective graduate student! To apply to our graduate program, click on the following link to complete the online application through the Graduate School at the University of Mississippi. Each applicant will need to fill out that official application as well as the supplemental application (a Google form) for our program linked on the Graduate School application. On the supplemental application, each applicant must be sure to respond to all questions, include a personal statement, upload a transcript, and give contact information for three (3) letters of recommendation. Applicants may utilize the same personal statement on the Graduate School application as well as our departmental, supplemental application. To be admitted to a graduate degree program in full standing, a student must have completed a B.S. degree in chemistry with an average grade of B. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required. Questions related to international language test scores should be directed to the international office: https://international.olemiss.edu/.

Exceptionally qualified students in exceptional circumstances who have not completed a B.S. degree in chemistry but have a degree in a related field (such as biology, engineering, physics, pharmacology, or pharmacy) may be admitted. However they should expect to present a clear case in their personal statement for admission. Additionally, they should expect to be provisionally admitted until specified conditions are satisfied such as prerequisite coursework or other expectations.

Applicants are encouraged to contact faculty members whose research aligns with the applicant’s interests, but this is not required.

All non-provisionally admitted students are fully funded, and this will be renewed on an annual basis for up to five (5) years if the student is deemed to be making good progress.

Applications for admission are accepted at any time, but review of applications begins on December 7 and will continue until all graduate student lines are filled.
